Niezłe Szprychy. On women in the world of cycling | Publication design
author: Ejsymont Agnieszka | coauthor: | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) 40

What is the project about?
A book about women in the world of cycling. Those racing, traveling, designing and most importantly inspiring other women to join them and share the passion for bikes. The publication presents empowering stories of female cyclists, both from the past and present, focusing not only on their achievements, but also the challenges they faced on the way and on the beautiful phenomenon that helped them do so – the bond I like to call the 'sisterhood on wheels'. Apart from the subjective analysis of female cycling history, the book includes interviews with five amazing female cyclists: Lael Wilcox, Marianne Martin, Izabella Krawczyk, Dorota Juranek and Alina Kilian, that agreed to take part in the project and share their thoughts and experiences as women in the industry.

For whom the project was created?
The main target group when creating the project were girls and women in the beginning of their cycling journey, who I wanted to simply encourage to start riding. Over the course of working on the book, though, my initial assumptions evolved and so the target group grew, too. I can imagine it could include both girls and boys, women and men, more experienced riders and those just getting familiar with the discipline. I honestly believe that the stories presented in the book carry some universal values and can be inspirational and beneficial on many levels to the truly diversified group of readers.

What is the aim of the project?
The aim of the project is to break the stereotypes about female cyclists, bust the myths that might scare away the novices, open a discussion about some of the issues found within the cycling environment and last but not least to show, both women and men, that ‘riding like a girl’ can be perceived as a great compliment. It is to serve as a tribute to the described heroines, but also become an inspiration to the readers.

What was your motivation to create the project?
The project was created as a Master Diploma at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław. I wrote the book with the hope to contribute to the growth and ongoing positive change in the female cycling world. Having professional athletes and bike travelers as friends has allowed me to get to know the cycling environment from the inside, seeing some trends, patterns and phenomena within, that I then decided to explore and address with my design. I believe now it can create a ripple effect, passing the cycling bug on further and further. Moreover, there is no publication on that matter yet on the Polish market, so the goal was to fill that gap. "Niezłe Szprychy..." is to be released in 2022.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
The project is related to the bikes not only on the textual level, but also design-wise. Wheel spokes became the main key visual of the project. They helped construct the layout grid and to pick 18 directions that, alternating with every new chapter, symbolize the change happening in the history of female cycling and influence the setup of the page content. The main illustration style is collage. Combining pictures from national archives, hand-drawn elements and bold typography has given the book a vibrant character, capturing the nature of the sport and of the sportswomen, too. The colors used in the publication, purple and orange, refer to the flag of Women’s Suffrage Movement, as, in the past, the bicycle played a major role in emancipating women.

Napole - an alternative guide to Krakow
author: Fabia Balbina | coauthor: | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro)

What is the project about?
As part of the project, an application concept was developed. The app allows you to discover and mark interesting places on the city map. Basic functionality is discovering new random spots and the randomness provides a surprise element, which should encourage future exploration. The app allows users to continuously increase the base of places, but it also allows users to interact with each other, by adding opinions and photos. The solution was designed with Cracow in mind, but the concept is very generic, so it can be implemented in many different places. More about: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/14CkylUThnwrdA35mzuZJzYkSPM6y-_A8?usp=sharing

For whom the project was created?
The project was created for citizens of Krakow (mainly teenagers and young adults) to encourage them to discover the city.

What is the aim of the project?
Our lifestyle is constantly changing, and the advent of the pandemic has highlighted some of them - we spend even more time without any movement, in front of devices’ screens, which have a negative impact on their well-being and health condition. Meaning of daily, spontaneous physical activity for physical and mental health, the beneficial impact of daily walks are commonly known and they are scientifically proven. That’s why the main goal of the project was to encourage young citizens of Cracow to actively discover their city. Discovering their neighbourhood might become the means of good changes, it gives an opportunity to spend time in a more active way.

What was your motivation to create the project?
One of the factors that prompted me to take up the subject of local tourism was the map project for the Kazimierz district in Krakow, which was developed in the second year of BA studies at the Visual Communication Studio. The research preceding the project realized me how little I know about the neighbourhood where I live from the beginning of my studies. This prompted me to reflect on the subject further attitude of residents to the city and drew attention to how often the closest area is not perceived by them as an attractive tourist destination. The advent of the pandemic strengthened the final decision. That situation even clearer showed how important it is for people to go outside. Any analyzes, expert comments and reports only confirmed that stress, uncertainty, in addition, the nee

Try to describe additional values of your project?
As part of the project, the concept of the application's operation and its key functionalities, as well as the interface design, were developed, which can become the basis for the creation and development of a real digital product. The basic version of the application assumes the possibility of discovering and marking interesting places on the map of Krakow. In the future, the application could be expanded with additional functionalities, e.g. connecting with friends' accounts or introducing gamification elements. The solution is so universal that it could also be successfully introduced in other cities.

Goodbye. Journer through grief | Żegnaj. Podróż przez żałobę
author: Godlewska Aleksandra | coauthor: - | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) ~70-100€

What is the project about?
"Goodbye. Journey through grief" is an informative booklet with artistic undertones. Responsible and socially engaged design does not always have to be an innovative breakthrough. Some issues require restraint and only a subtle design interference. Designing for death — focused on the process of grief, is a neuralgic, sensitive and critical area of work for designers. Grief is a hard to understand, deepen and comprehend topic, especially without personal experience. In our social consciences, there is an outdated belief from the 90's, that the process of grief contains several specific steps, and that's what we expect when facing a loss. Due to this belief, we expect to get ourselves ready for this process, but grief is not something we can prepare towards.

For whom the project was created?
Project aims at education about the issue of grief, but also highlights broad spectrum of emotions occuring during grief, varying between our individual condition. Project can walk us through various alternating states — not stages — of grief. "Goodbye" tries to show that it is perfectly normal to feel not only longing sadness or shock, but also relief and happiness. Mysterious, unstable and constantly changing feelings are portrayed with the use of gradients in abstract, minimalistic illustrations. Gradients are referring to the state of transition between the world of living and the dead, as well as reality with and without the loved one. Typographic compositions are designed with a huge amount of negative space to literally convey the experience of loss.

What is the aim of the project?
Current state of education about death and grief is almost non-existent. Contemporary science states that grief comes in all different colours and this process is solely personal. Project aims at education about the issue of grief, but also highlights broad spectrum of emotions occuring during grief, varying between our individual condition. Project can walk us through various alternating states — not stages — of grief. Mysterious, unstable and constantly changing feelings are portrayed with the use of gradients in abstract, minimalistic illustrations. Gradients are referring to the state of transition between the world of living and the dead, as well as reality wit

What was your motivation to create the project?
My motivation to create this project was to bring the topic of grief out of the taboo state of mind and start the conversation about personal experience of loss. The main and primary goal of this project was to widely remind, that grief is normal and healthy reaction to loss, but at the same time, there is no one-fits-all trajectory of this experience. Overall message sent via this booklet design can be summed up to: Grief is normal and healthy, but also has a highly personal course.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
Booklet contains up-to-date information about grief, thanks to the support of specialists in this field. The meritorical part of this project was created in close cooperation with experts in the field of death from Instytut of Good Death (Instytut Dobrej Śmierci) — psychologists and sociologists. Moreover, from a purely design perspective, it tries to show that the topic of death is not something that designers should steer clear of. With the right approach and huge amount of sensitivity, we can take death from something aesthetically forgotten and almost neglected, to something visually satysfing and maybe even comforting. „Okolica” — social action and visual essay about Cracow
author: Greń Kacper | coauthor: | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) 100€

What is the project about?
What I liked to achieve with my project was to point out that the space we live in day-to-day is something worthwhile and that there is much to discover around us. My intention was also to highlight what kind of phenomenons are going on in touristically attractive cities. For these two reasons I focused on today's Cracow — my place of living. I considered the issue of city mini-activism — the possibility of showing our feelings or opinions on what happens in our surroundings.

For whom the project was created?
My project is aimed primarily to the residents of Krakow, whom I would like to encourage to collective care for the surrounding space.

What is the aim of the project?
My aim was to bring attention to the fact that we all could participate in paths of development of our neighbourhoods. Some mini-tools which can serve this matter was also something I thought about. The result is a book — visual essay — along with inserts: a dust-jacket with a map on the inside, a brochure-poster and a set of posters and stickers. Such a kit, or some of its elements, can be distributed through bookshops, museums, art galleries, cafes, bars, city information desks as well as by private individuals or city activists.

What was your motivation to create the project?
For most time I have spent in Cracow I lived in the city centre. I had an opportunity to see how gentrification works day by day, so I know that the city is currently a subject to rapid change. My intention was to show what kind of process it is, alongside with its causes and effects. The area of Cracow I took into consideration was District I (Dzielnica I) — in its borders I looked for non-gentrified but at the same time city-forming places. This is something I recognised as peculiarly valuable also due to the fact of its constant year to year disappearing. Each of them was documented with photography and street-inspired typography.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
With my work I would like to broaden the meaning of a book as a medium of art. As every normal book it consists of text and images, but at the same time it enables some social actions. My idea was not only to provide some information to the reader or to expand their sensitivity, but also to provide the tools to express their feelings. I think that a book can be thereby a driver in changing our surroundings and our lifes for better. It is also a new attitude to the social campaign. Central planning or time frame are not necessary — it can work and evolve spontaneously and organically.

SISTERS OF EUROPE
author: Grzelak Karolina | coauthor: - | year: 2020
estimated value of the project (Euro) 500e

What is the project about?
The project is a translation of seventeen interviews, seventeen women from all over Europe, into a paper version. The book deals with the stories of women who are very different: some are astronauts, others work in the mine, but they always have one thing in common - the will to bring about change. It is an interpretation of the interviews as a publishing house, complemented by animations that contrast with the whole. These slogans are short, very blunt, and true. The posters allude to marches, shouts, emotions and banners. They simply pay attention to the problems faced by women. The whole project is based on contrasts - you can find them in a combination of fonts, colors and photos that show flowers, seemingly associated with women and delicacy, and are juxtaposed with very blunt quotes.

For whom the project was created?
The project was created by a group of activists - Sisters Of Europe. The book is aimed at every person in the world, its aim is to raise awareness and educate. Each person can get something out of it for himself and the world.

What is the aim of the project?
The design process is finding the golden mean in design. On the one hand, I wanted a visually interesting form of the project, a bit of madness - on the other hand, that women's stories should be clearly presented, because they play the first role here. I believe that I have managed to find a balance between the two issues and thus solved the problem.

What was your motivation to create the project?
Feminism.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
The aim of the publishing house is to educate people - not only as a book. Animations may appear in public space, drawing attention to the problems of women in the world.

Dictionary of the Khazars
author: Hardi Darjan | coauthor: | year: 2020
estimated value of the project (Euro) 300

What is the project about?
As the reader is guided through the story and the complex world of the origin and demise of the Khazar people by writers language, my goal was to add a new visual language with the illustrations and redesign of this experimental novel, which could bring Milorad Pavić's world a bit closer to the reader. The new visual is inspired by the strong use of symbolism in the book, metaphors, and folk tales, which the author uses to reconstruct and re-create the Khazar world. Combining fiction and reality, just as Milorad Pavić does within the text, the book has a newly added chapter, which includes my own photo documentation that traces the Khazars in Serbia.

For whom the project was created?
The book was created both for the readers who have come across the book before as well as for the ones who are seeing it for the first time. I tried to leave the space for the reader and the viewer, so they have the visual language accompany them throughout the story but not to guide them. It is on the reader*viewer wheatear they will deconstruct the illustrations/symbols in the book or just pass by them as atmospherical fragments.

What is the aim of the project?
As the book dwells on the complex history of the Khazars and with the experimental form of the language used by Milorad Pavić it creates this wast world into which the viewer gets immersed, I wanted to create an exemplar where this world and the story of the Khazars could expand even more.

What was your motivation to create the project?
Dictionary of the Khazars was the book I carried and often returned to from my high school. Throughout the years I wanted to react to it in some way. Graduation project seemed like the right space for it, where I could dwell even deeper and explore it in many ways from both theoretical and visual aspects. It was also my way of returning back to the country where I was born and raised, back to Serbia where the places and the culture are so tightly intervened in the Dictionary.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
As the redesigned Dictionary was made at the Academy of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, I had an opportunity to create the book as a whole, to be an active part from the beginning to the very end. It was printed with the straight from plate technique of offset print with the help of mister Jaroslav Janďourek, the covers were printed in silkscreen, with the help of mister René Řebec. Later on, the book was bound n the workshop of bookbinding with the great help of mister Jan Hybner. That way the Dictionary of the Khazars was (re)constructed yet again, as it was done before, by the saying of old manuscripts which are mentioned in the book itself. There are only two editions published in theCzech Republic, last one published in 2011, which are almost impossible to find nor buy.

What is the project about?
AFTER EXTRA TIME: an exploration into niche topics in football and times when it influenced aspects of human life, culture and issues. This book dives into specific stories, anecdotes taken straight from the world of football where the core values of the sport have transcended everyday lives of regular people, fans and non fans alike. Divided into three sections: Community, Money, and Art, each section is host to a number of chapters, each illustrated by the author. In the book one can find stories about Forest Green Rovers, first fully vegan football club, a Maradona that never was, fan owned clubs and world’s smallest football league.

For whom the project was created?
The project was created with football fans in mind, fans that are looking for alternative portrayal of the already world famous game. However it is also suited towards the non-fan in terms of language it is written in.

What is the aim of the project?
The aim of the project was to both convert the topical sceptics and change the negative perception they may have of football. Its' purpose also lies in providing a niche platform filled with trivial facts that transcend football itself.

What was your motivation to create the project?
Football has been my passion since the early days of primary school, ever since then it has inspired me in my creative crafts.

Projekt aplikacji do zarządzania upływem czasu T/ME
author: Masella Marta | coauthor: | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro)

What is the project about?
Nieustanny pęd i dążenie do ciągłej produktywności zmarginalizowały znaczenie życia osobistego. Pandemia zatarła granicę pomiędzy przestrzenią zawodową a miejscem odpoczynku. Przyjęty system mierzenia czasu wytwarza konieczność podporządkowania się sztywnym definicjom, nie zostawiając miejsca na subiektywne odczucia i elastyczne postrzeganie przemijających chwil. W odpowiedzi na problem powstał spekulatywny projekt aplikacji do zarządzania upływem czasu T/ME.

For whom the project was created?
Koncepcja skierowana jest do odważnych indywidualistów chcących przekroczyć zdefiniowane ramy oraz osób chętnych do podjęcia dyskusji na temat percepcji i znaczenia czasu w dzisiejszym świecie.

What is the aim of the project?
Główne założenie stanowi przywrócenie postrzegania czasu jako indywidualnego odczucia. Aplikacja jest jedynie pretekstem służącym do zaprezentowania spekulatywnej wizji świata bez ściśle określonych systemów czasowych.

Listovatel / Open book of Karel Placka (in original/CZ: Listovatel / Otevřený sešit Karla Placky )
author: Matušková Karolína | coauthor: Karla Gondeková | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) 20 EURO (for five binded workbooks)

What is the project about?
Listovatel is a free web platform distributing worksheets for children aged about 7–11 beyond teaching or for leisure time. Letters develop fine motor skills, logical thinking, self-reflection, creativity and thinking in an interdisciplinary context. The project was created as a diploma thesis at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague at the instigation of a pandemic situation, the current setting of the technological world, the ever-widening generation gap, ecological crisis and visual smog arising due to insufficient visual level of teaching materials. The content of the worksheets is things around us intertwining with our daily lives divided into five thematic areas: communication, light, time, construction and movement processed by logical and creative games.

For whom the project was created?
Games and tasks in the sheets are intended for pupils/children aged about 7–11, who want to develop, but also have fun with the main protagonist Karel Placka, who arrived from the past in his hand-built time-flying machine. The children are guided through thematic areas and alternated with them in the position of teacher–pupil / narrator–listener. Grandpa Karel looks for connections between the present world and the past, which he experienced, and sheds light on historical events. He learns from the children to know the presence and functioning of the technological world. The website is then intended for a wide range of audiences, including teachers and parents who want to give their children some kind of toy which could teach them something or as an accompanying tool for school teaching.

What is the aim of the project?
Our goal is to take children in the world of interesting facts, to give them the opportunity to take a break from the technological world, to connect aspects of everyday life, and thus give them meaning in a scattered overinformed time. To give children space for their own opinion, to develop in them a visual level and creativity not limited by the given visual environment of the digital world. To teach them to observe things around them and to look for connections in between them. Point out to the advantages of the technological world, but also point out to its possible risks. Mitigate the ever-widening generation gap between our grandparents and new generations through an inquisitive protagonist, grandfather Karel Placka.

What was your motivation to create the project?
We were motivated by several aspects. Karolína's mother works as a primary school teacher, so we were very close to teaching materials that are completely unsatisfactory in terms of visual appearance. As students of graphic design and illustration, we therefore decided to devote our time to a diploma thesis in this field. Thanks to the search for available materials, however, we have also reached many beautifully crafted publications, which, on the other hand, cannot be afforded by all children or schools due to insufficient funds. Last but not least, our experience from schools, where information is selected into subjects and their interrelationship is often lost. Furthermore, the experience of some children in our area who are losing interest in drawing and manual activities.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
The basic condition of the project is easy accessibility to schools or families with insufficient financial resources, the possibility of editing and development and, last but not least, cheap costs with a low ecological footprint. The distribution of sheets is therefore through an online environment, where sheets adapted for normal black and white printing are available at home, at school, at work or, for example, in the library. Users have the option of printing individual sheets or the entire workbook (Karel Placka's Open Workbook) based on their requirements, and therefore there is no unnecessary overproduction. The whole project is available free of charge for the public at www.listovatel.cz

Weak will vs. Netflix. A mobile application for dealing with addiction to series
author: Pielecka Anna | coauthor: | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro)

What is the project about?
A tool supporting the fight against addiction to watching series. The application is divided into three parts: 1. Awareness (knowledge) - articles on behavioral addictions and other related topics; 2. Support (methods) - advices on how to develop useful habits; 3. Activities (challenges) - set of profiled activities users can do, based on their favourite show characters; making people aware that compulsive viewing can be just as harmful, and it is worthwhile to diversify your activities.

For whom the project was created?
The phenomenon of addiction to serials knows no age limits, but in order to profile the information and communication channel in the best possible way, I focused on a group of students aged 19 to 25. This is the age group in which statistically this problem occurs most often (confirmed by Deloitte’s international research).

What is the aim of the project?
Make students pay attention to their approach to watching TV series and help them diversify their activities in their free time. It's not about demonizing watching. However, moderation and self-control are important. The project is to help discover the causes of a potential addiction, ask helpful questions and indicate possibilities.

What was your motivation to create the project?
When we talk about addiction to alcohol or drugs, we feel the importance of the situation. However, when the phrase "I am addicted to watching series" comes up, the interlocutors most often nod with a smile, not realizing almost equally harmful consequences. The problem is underestimated by society and there is no dialogue about it. In addition, in the era of increasing demand for streaming platforms, the risk of addiction to serials increases and affects a wider group of people.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
- novelty - niche, important topic, - content previously unavailable in Polish, - accessible form (easy, original texts, short forms and responsiveness of the application), - emphasis on research during the process, - project bibliography of almost 100 items in the field of behavioral psychology, UX, UI, sociology and marketing.

Bikky is a bike-sharing app, designed specifically for foreign travelers and tourists who enjoy exploring the historical cities, in a more personal and different way. The Bikyy app does not own bikes, but rent the bikes that hostels and touristic centers provide, with an added value of guided experiences, by providing route maps and audio guides to the history of the routes and landmarks they are crossing.

For whom the project was created?
The Users of the project was designed are foreign tourists and travelers visiting Iran. The Customers are the hostels and information centers that provide the bikes. The Client is the Ministry of culture and Heritage in Iran.

What is the aim of the project?
- Improving the tourism experience traveling in Iran - Giving automated and self-customed guidance options to travelers. - Giving them the opportunity to explore the area in a different way - Increasing the revenue of local tourism services by making the connection between travelers and the service owners.

What was your motivation to create the project?
I was interested in finding a more sustainable and green way to share the travel experience in my country with more tourists. Since I always travel on a low budget myself, I always wished to have access to a cheaper but rich city touring experience which allows you to have control of the plan and Itinerary as well, plus, not harming the environment and having fun.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
As mentioned, Bikyy app is not only a service for travelers, it also helps the growth and income of local traveler services, which now more than ever are facing financial issues, by giving them the possibity of visibility through sharing their bikes or small space for parking them, something which they might not have had that easy before, or had to pay for advertisements for it. Also, this type of tourism has the least environmentla impact by reducing vehicle transfers and time wasted in traffic ( which is a major issue in narrow streets of downtowns).

Font Behaton
author: Sobota Zofia | coauthor: | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro)

What is the project about?
Behaton is a font inspired by an I-shaped concrete paving block, in Poland often called the Bauma block. It consists of upper case and lower case letters of the Latin alphabet, polish diacritical marks, numbers and symbols. Besides designing a fully functional font, a significant part of the project was devoted to researching the history and controversies around the Bauma Block. It is known as a symbol of bad taste and the Polish economic transformation of the 90s, as that was when it started being used in Poland on a large scale. A common misconception exists that the block is a Polish invention of 1989, while the author during her research debunks this belief and is able to trace its origin all the way back to the 1950s in the Netherlands.

For whom the project was created?
Like many other fonts, Behaton is supposed to be a tool for other designers. It can be used in projects about urban planning, places relating to the aesthetics of the 90s and by those who intentionally want to refer to cultural connotations of the Bauma block.

What is the aim of the project?
Knowing the history of the Bauma brick sheds new light on the emotions it evokes. The aim of this project was to change people's perspectives on it. The font Behaton arrives at the roots of the Bauma block and reflects on its form. It draws inspiration from its utilitarian and modernist functionality and focuses on the legibility of signs. In the end, it is also about creating interesting typography with a story behind.

What was your motivation to create the project?
The motivation to create this project came from a simple inspiration of the shape of the Bauma block, which seemed very typographical, as well as discovering cultural controversies around the Bauma block itself. My font is based on the idea of subtly using the shape of the Bauma block in the letter "i", while the construction of the rest of the letters is based on its width and distinctive serifs.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
My research about the Bauma block is truly a breakthrough. Never before it was investigated in detail, and there is much misinformation on the Internet. My project involved writing a 57-page long research paper about its history, inventing it in the Netherlands, implementation in the polish urban landscape and change of society's perspective on the Bauma block throughout the years.

DRUH
author: Sudyka Sonia | coauthor: - | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) -

What is the project about?
The DRUH project is a service design that allows Ukrainian employees and Polish employers to build mutual trust at the initial stage of recruitment and safely go through the employment procedure. The service consists of the Druh function, an online platform and a welcome package. The idea of the Druh function is to support, advise both sides in the employment and cooperation process. Druh is not one person - behind its actions stand experts, psychologists, knowledge base and experienced employees. Druh service is supported by an online platform, through which you can receive help, create profiles, exchange knowledge. The platform also enables creating a welcome package, which is given to a new employee from Ukraine after arrival in Poland.

For whom the project was created?
The project is primarily aimed at Ukrainian employees and Polish employers. In the long In the long term, the project would benefit Polish and Ukrainian foundations, authorities and the state.

What is the aim of the project?
The aim of the project is to build trust and credibility between Ukrainian employees and Polish employers in the recruitment process and in further cooperation.

What was your motivation to create the project?
My motivation was an observation that for the last few years, there has been a clear increase in the influx of Ukrainians into Poland. They come mainly to earn money, because there is still an economic crisis in Ukraine and Poland is close to them culturally and geographically. Despite the fact that workers from Ukraine are necessary in sustaining our economy and, among other things, have helped to reduce the rise in unemployment in Poland, you still hear stories of them being mistreated, cheated by job brokers and employers. The design addresses the problem of lack of mutual trust between the two sides, caused by the possibility of fraud in the recruitment process and further cooperation.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
The added value of the project is that the example of the service can be used worldwide, especially in countries where there is no systematic process for accepting immigrants for work and where fraud and abuse occur. Thanks to the project, the process of recruiting immigrants would be simpler, shorter and safer.

MedTalk
author: Twaróg Joanna | coauthor: | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro)

What is the project about?
The project addresses the problem of marginalization and exclusion in access to medical care. MedTalk was designed with deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind people in mind. The main emphasis was placed on the communication aspect and on adapting the interface to the individual needs of users, especially those with disabilities. MedTalk enables searching for doctors, making an appointment with a doctor, and helps with communication both in a clinic and online. When voice mode is selected, audio may be transmitted directly from the app to the user's hearing aid. MedTalk can also manage the treatment process, monitor health, collect and organize medical information for the patient so that it is easy to understand and to take proper actions.

For whom the project was created?
People with hearing disabilities are at risk of marginalization and exclusion in access to medical care. They face several difficulties and problems at each stage of the treatment process. Communication problems cause, among others, difficulties in making an appointment, confusion in the queue, failure to inform about the process of medical examination. Communication issues make the interview, diagnosis, and medical recommendations difficult to understand. Sign interpreter service generates additional costs, the translator's availability is limited in time, and the quality of the translation of medical issues may prove insufficient.

What is the aim of the project?
MedTalk's main aim is to facilitate access to medical care for people with disabilities and to provide independence and positive patient experiences in the treatment process.

What was your motivation to create the project?
My motivation for this project was equal access to medical care for people with hearing impairments. I focused on healthcare because it is one of the most important aspects of society. Hearing-impaired people face many communication difficulties in contact with medical care. Deaf and hard of hearing people due to communication problems are exposed to difficulties in accessing medical care and a reduction in the quality of services.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
MedTalk project is equitable. An interface adapts to the user's needs and preferences. Touch, voice, and hybrid control modes are available. This solution makes MedTalk universal and accessible, allowing people with disabilities and non-disabled to use it. As part of the design process, I conducted interviews, consultation of user scenarios, analysis of existing solutions, and three series of usability tests with groups of people with hearing disabilities and deaf-blindness. Those actions allowed me to listen to the people I designed for and find their real problems and pain points. Then, I was able to verify my ideas and choose the best solutions to those problems.

Visit without barriers
author: Wasiak Zuzanna | coauthor: | year: 2020
estimated value of the project (Euro) 1

What is the project about?
“Visit without barriers” is a card supporting communication between a deaf patient and a gynecologist. The project consists of three cards that the patient fills in before or during the visit to the gynecologist. In the first card there is a medical interview and the other two cards consists dozen groups of symptoms which are the most common reasons why patients come to the doctor.

For whom the project was created?
Project was created for all hearing impaired women. At an early stage of the project the content was consulted with a gynecologist. During design process the project was presented several times to a group of a dozen or so deaf people who completed the card and tested the readability of messages and pictograms. Their comments and suggestions helped to develop the project so that it will be most adapted to the needs of deaf patients.

What is the aim of the project?
The deaf and hearing impaired women have limited access to gynecological services. The reason is the communication barrier between the patient and the doctor. Coming to the doctor's office with a sign language interpreter or a family member causes discomfort.During the visit without an interpreter, there is a problem with the patient's communication with the doctor, which causes additional stress and incorrect understanding of the recommendations. As a consequence, many deaf women are discouraged from gynecological treatment, which may have a negative effect on their health. The aim of the project was to make it easier for women with hearing impairments to visit a gynecologist on their own, so that they feel comfortable and can easily communicate with the doctor.

What was your motivation to create the project?
A visit to the gynecologist is an important event, especially for young women, because it affects the intimate sphere. I know from my experience how important it is to communicate with the gynecologist during the visit so that it goes without complications and that the patient feels comfortable. From entries on internet forums regarding barriers during treatment for women with disabilities I found out how big of a problem women with hearing problems have, to go to the gynecologist on their own, without an interpreter. I was touched by the stories described there. I wanted to support these women so that they would not have to feel any additional fear of the visit. I wanted to find a simple and accessible solution to this problem.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
1. Easy to implement due to relatively low printing costs. It is designed so that both in color and in black and white print with lower quality content and pictograms are legible. The printed form also allows the doctor and the patient to write additional questions on the reverse side during the visit for the purpose of clarification and communication. 2. Easily available - both on websites as PDF file for downloading and printing, as well as in every medical clinic. 3. The project has great potential to be expanded in the future with additional communication cards for deaf patients for visits to doctors of other specializations which could be a systemic solution to the problem. 4. The project in its current form is in a paper version - due to lower production costs and the non-adaptatio

Blue 52
author: Wysiadecka Klaudia | coauthor: Katarzyna Stefańska | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) 4500

What is the project about?
"Blue 52" is a short animated film(10min), showing the problems of people with hearing impairment in relation to hearing people. It is a story about loneliness resulting from communication barriers, told from the perspective of a deaf person. The animation includes subtitles and Polish Sign Language. A 12-year-old girl named Iris is deaf and speaks Polish Sign Language. The mother tells the girl the story of the Blue 52 whale, which is known as the most lonely whale in the world. He speaks a different language that others do not understand and is excluded because of his dissimilarity. The girl goes to meet the whale. Her struggles are being watched by her father, who does not accept sign language and requires her to use only phonic language.

For whom the project was created?
The project was created for the hearing community who do not realize what problems deaf people have to deal with on a daily basis. Additionally, it is aimed at deaf children who know sign language, because there are no animations containing Polish Sign Language.

What is the aim of the project?
The aim of the animation is to educate the hearing society and to make people aware of the scale of the problem of hearing people's approach to the subject of hearing impairment and sign language. Additionaly, the purpose of the animation was also to reach people on the margins of society due to the fact that hearing people do not accept them, to show them a different perspective of looking at deafness and to remind them that regardless of the situation and circumstances, they still have the right to their own language, which is sign language.

What was your motivation to create the project?
"I was born a hearing impaired person, I am a child of hearing parents, I was brought up in the culture of hearing. I never knew the deaf, I only saw them casually, for me they were very silent about the child's perspective, my parents did not take any initiatives to let me get to know this world at least a little. Of course, my parents had no experience in this subject, they did not know that the decisions they make at the beginning of my life would result in a lack of a sense of their own identity" - Klaudia "I was motivated by the knowledge of a person with hearing loss, because earlier I thought about this problem through the prism of sterotypes. Getting to know the world of the deaf changed that, so I wanted to share this experience with others." - Katarzyna Stefańska, Co-author

Try to describe additional values of your project?
An additional intention is to correct the myths that occur in society and to encourage integration between the hearing and deaf people. We hope that the film will also go to deaf children born in a hearing family. A key element of media aimed at children is the location of the main character with whom the child can identify. It is a didactic procedure, teaching how to build relationships and awareness of belonging to a community. Unfortunately, the current media offer for children does not include many films or series that could help deaf children, making them feel overlooked.

Anxiety for all evil
author: Żołnowska Olga | coauthor: | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro)

What is the project about?
The book "Anxiety for all Evil" is a diploma project that deals with the topic of anxiety disorders. The book consists of definitions of individual phobias, and the text is accompanied by illustrations. There is a card with a description of the therapy methods next to each definition. While collecting the material for the book, I conducted a questionnaire with questions about anxiety. I asked people from all walks of life and ages what anxiety is, what they are afraid of and whether they are ashamed to tell others about their fears. I have included the obtained answers in the book as quotes.

For whom the project was created?
The project is aimed mainly at people without anxiety disorders, to learn something about the disorders, but not only. Also as a kind of support for people with disorders.

What is the aim of the project?
The aim of the project is to draw attention to the problem of anxiety disorders, to downplay the problem or keep silent about it. Fears accompany all of us, but sometimes their intensity is so strong that we stop functioning normally because we have no one to turn to when it comes to the problem.

What was your motivation to create the project?
I wanted to make people aware that everyone has fears, greater or lesser, and it is worth talking about it, not to be ashamed of judging others.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
It is not only a book with definitions of anxiety disorders, but also a kind of diary, a collection of statements by various people who trusted me and wanted to share their thoughts and fears with me and my readers.

Bicycle trailer with a variable function.
author: Adamczyk Miłosz | coauthor: (none) | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) €400

What is the project about?
We are witnessing a global trend to promote bicycle transport in urban agglomerations. It is justified by factors such as: problems of traffic congestion, rising costs of motorised vehicle operation, environmental protection issues, noise pollution and urban planning considerations.

For whom the project was created?
The overriding goal of the project was to design a product that could encourage the inhabitants of urban agglomerations to consider a bicycle as a real alternative to cars and public transport. I have chosen to focus on the limited capacity for the transport of goods by bicycle users.

What is the aim of the project?
Drawing conclusions from issues related to bicycle transport in urban space I designed a modular bicycle trailer, the structure of which allows for a simple and quick change of functionality. The form of the object allows the user to obtain three variants of the vehicle configuration: • basic two-wheeled bicycle trailer with a detachable bag that protects carried baggage from the elements. • cargo trailer with a detachable, folding unit that allows the user to transport bigger dimension goods. • children transportation trailer obtained by attaching a cover and a child seat to the frame in a folded position.

What was your motivation to create the project?
The factors that motivated me to take up this topic were an attempt to face the limitations of similar products available on the market and my personal experience of using a bicycle as a means of transport.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
The form of the trailer was designed with an emphasis on low price, simplicity of production and durability, while mainta ining compliance with the EN 15918 + A2 standard for two-wheeled bicycle trailers for children. The project was carried out as part of the master's degree diploma thesis at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts in Poznań.

author: Adamczyk Miłosz | coauthor: Marianna Wasyłyk | year: 2020
estimated value of the project (Euro) €550

What is the project about?
The subject of the project was to design equipment for a medical facility with a dedicated function. Early in the design process, we conducted interviews with hospital staff, measurements of the rehabilitation equipment used, and an analysis of the needs of patients and doctors.

For whom the project was created?
The users of the project are the child patients of Wiktor Dega Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Clinical Hospital in Poznań with cerebral palsy rehabilitated with an exoskeleton and doctors operating the equipment. The objects have been designed in such a way that they can also be used by adult patients.

What is the aim of the project?
The project consists of two objects. The function of the base is to facilitate the use of exoskeleton in the rehabilitation process. The backrest is separated so that the patient could be safely seated while wearing the exoskeleton. The base is secured by wheel brakes released with a dedicated handle. The second object is the organizer, equipped with a table top, detachable baskets for accessories and holders for crutches. We used medical PVC fabric which is abrasion-resistant, water-resistant, and easy to disinfect. The frame geometry is based on the assumption that the resulting objects are to be easy to produce and optimized for disassembly and compact packing during transport.

What was your motivation to create the project?
What motivated us to develop the project was the opportunity to design a product facilitating the rehabilitation of chronically ill people.

Try to describe additional values of your project?

MeleMai
author: Budzyńska Maja | coauthor: | year: 2020
estimated value of the project (Euro) 200

What is the project about?
MeleMai is a way to encourage women to use the thermal method of contraception and to introduce it to the 21st century. Its aim is to improve the quality of life, especially the intimate one of women and their partners. The design consists of several elements. The first one is a device that combines an erotic toy and an ovulation thermometer. The second part of the project is an mobile app that records the measurements of basal body temperature taken by the main device. The purpose of the app is to compile the data – as well as enable the user to enter other symptoms easily. The final important element of the design is the charging case. It allows a discreet storage of the device and travelling with it.

For whom the project was created?
Sex is definitely associated with having children. We can divide people into those who want to have children and those who don’t. My project is dedicated to both groups. The main target group are the couples who struggle to have a child and the women who are looking for a healthy, reliable and organic contraceptive method. MeleMai is also dedicated to women who want to enjoy their sexlife. Orgasms boost women's fertility and well-being. It helps with headaches and period cramps. Women masturbation is stigmatized and it shouldn't be. Having a toy helps women to get to know her body, needs and boundaries. For women it is harder to orgasm and without this knowledge it is almost impossible.

What is the aim of the project?
MeleMai project concerns a multi functional device which supports the thermal method of contraception. Its aim is to improve the quality of life, especially the intimate one of women and their partners. It works on many levels. MeleMai helps women to discover how their bodies function and what brings them pleasure and joy. MeleMai also make easier to determine when women is fertile and when she is not. A lot of couples struggle to conceive for a long time. For them sex can be stressful and boring. This may affects badly both women's and men's fertility. MeleMai helps those couples to predict when women will be fertile. It can also bring fun and spice to the bedroom and make sex less repetitive.

What was your motivation to create the project?
Erotic nature of the project is deliberate. Both for men and women, couples and singles, sex is a very important part of life. It makes people happy, brings them together, is a way to build long-lasting bonds between humans and has a good effect on the human psyche. This project is my way to give potential users a new way to strengthen partnerships and engage a man. My project helps a woman get to know her own body which may enhance better communication between partners.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
Most methods of contraception we have nowadays aren't ideal. A lot of women at some point of their lives use hormonal methods of preventing pregnancy. That may be harmful to their health and well-being. It is also not ecological since all the waste it produces in boxes and tablet blisters. Vastly used condoms are bad to our environment too. Thermal method of contraception is difficult to use but MeleMai makes it so much easier. By encouraging women to use natural method of contraception, my project helps environment and women’s general well-being.

Physical Love – Accessories for Closeness and Tenderness
author: Głowacki Maciej | coauthor: | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) 500

What is the project about?
“Physical Love – Accessories for Closeness and Tenderness” are made for sexual education in pairs. They’re a counterproposal to today's sex toys, aiming to provoke closeness instead of meeting the simplest sexual needs and stereotypes. The project was made as an attempt to aid modern intimate relationships through design. The “Physical Love” consists of 3 independent objects, related to 3 universal areas of sexuality: – Before sex – "Invitation" – a lamp dedicated to easing problems with sexual communication and the expression of erotic initiative; – In the act – "Consonance" – an electronic device that helps in achieving sexual harmony with one’s partner through listening to their heartbeat; – After intercourse – "Presence" – a set for creating jewelry from “bedroom memories”.

For whom the project was created?
“Physical Love” was designed with accessibility in mind, for pairs of users regardless of their gender, orientation, age or physical fitness. Because everyone needs sex-ed and it can only be truly learnt with one another. Design should offer couples more than tens of shiny dilodos. It should raise awareness of often unacknowledged emotional needs, instead of profiting from basic sexual drives.

What is the aim of the project?
“Physical Love” is a postulate against stereotypical sexuality in product design. Instead of focusing on penetration and vibration, I propose two different goals that should be manifested through product design as viable sexual needs: 1. Presence over orgasm – Sexuality perceived not as a solitary activity, but always in relation to another human being. Design approach that changes focus from sexual efficiency and satisfaction to an intimate relation. 2. Sexual education through objects – Sex toys that encourage curiosity and attention towards one another. Products not for physical hedonism, but for bonding emotionally with our partners. The idea of my project is to pave the way for the future of erotic accessories design, so that it could become more responsible and educative.

What was your motivation to create the project?
Today, the image of sex is severely distorted. Sexualised popculture, pornography and liberalization come with a lack of education, especially concerning emotions. Even though the average age of pornographic initiation is 11, sex-ed is still unavailable in many countries. Meanwhile, erotic accessories are gaining popularity. The majority are single-user objects meant for penetration. They promote self-satisfaction, self-sufficiency and orgasm as the ultimate goal. Those products refer to the most biological drives and therefore meet with huge consumer demand. “Physical Love” marks an alternative to the intensity and nature of sexual content overwhelming the modern consumers. In the suggestive segment of erotic accessories, a design that looks for delicate and tender areas is badly needed

Try to describe additional values of your project?
"Tenderness is the most modest form of love. It is the kind of love that does not appear in the scriptures or the gospels, no one swears by it, no one cites it. It has no special emblems or symbols, nor does it lead to crime, or prompt envy. It appears wherever we take a close and careful look at another being, at something that is not our “self”. Tenderness is spontaneous and disinterested; it goes far beyond empathetic fellow feeling. Instead it is the conscious [...] common sharing of fate. Tenderness is deep emotional concern about another being, its fragility, its unique nature, and its lack of immunity to suffering and the effects of time. Tenderness perceives the bonds that connect us, the similarities and sameness between us." – Olga Tokarczuk, The Tender Narrator

Cancer disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. All types of skin cancers are malignant tumors and they are very common. Every year 3,000 new cases of melanoma are detected in Poland. Around the world, there are nearly 160 thousand cases of these diseases detected yeach year. Self-examination of the skin is an important factor in detecting early, disturbing changes. What should be look for are new moles that look different from your other moles, new red or dark flaky patches that are slightly convex, new pinkish stiff growths, wounds or abrasions that do not heal. It’s best to explore yourself from head to toe.

Now we are experiencing an overstimulating and falsifying experience that leads to confusion and emotional tension. This solution helps a person experience peace and comfort. As a stressed society, we accumulate negative emotions and have a problem with unloading them. The project allows you to get to know yourself, learn how to react to stimuli and emotions. The solution also helps to understand how important it is to understand our body. Nevertheless, the entire garment is in its expression a potentially ordinary piece of clothing. It doesn't stigmatize, embarrass, or lead to discomfort. It just helps.

For whom the project was created?
Due to the huge field of the issue, I thought for a long time to which group the project should be addressed. After analyzing the statistical data, I decided that the target group would be women from the Z generation. Statistically, in this group, the awareness of the problem is growing the most, and this group is also struggling with this problem. Besides, they want to learn to eliminate its effects.

What is the aim of the project?
Clothing is, next to physical contact with another person, an element of our life with which we constantly experience tactile sensations. That is why I decided that the aim was to create a system of controlled and comfortable haptic experiences that would relieve negative emotional tensions. Additionally, I decided that the garment would be used at home, i.e. in a place where we should feel safe and comfortable.

What was your motivation to create the project?
I was motivated by the way our bodies and clothes are treated today. I have been interested in clothes for a long time. Not only in terms of fashion. In this project, I treat clothing as an element of identity, culture, a function, and, above all, as a matter with which we interact. I have been worrying for a long time about the way how clothes are treated. It has only become a commercial fuel for society, which doesn't carry positive values. It is not realized that materials have a positive or negative effect on human health. With my project, I want to show a different approach to clothing, which has a clear purpose and is one of the examples of projects that solve a very difficult problem in our society.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
The great advantage is that the functional elements appearing on the surface of the garment can be used in other solutions. Not only in clothes. I treated this project as an experiment. I was working with the matter we use in the production of clothes. I analyzed the physical, mental, and chemical effects on the human body. I am currently working on creating an optimal solution for other social groups, especially children. The great advantage is that the design is an excuse for further consideration of haptics in clothing. Currently, this is not a subject that is being discussed on a larger scale. I am trying to broaden my research to create an optimal set of touch paths and forms. I want to help people to cope with negative emotions that we have recently had an abundance of.

Freshness - The family of objects, designed for storing fruits and vegetables
author: Kubińska Aleksandra | coauthor: | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) 400

What is the project about?
The family of objects, designed for storing fruits and vegetables, responds to an issue of food waste. Designed as small, organic forms made of ceramics, textiles and metal, they provide food with the best possible conditions for prolonging its freshness. The set consists of three ceramic objects: for storing carrots and parsley, for beetroot, celery and radishes, and for cut herbs and chives. By gently immersing the vegetables in water, their freshness is prolonged, while the use of stoneware creates a moist and cool environment inside the vessel. A complement to the project is a bag and a stand. They are designed to hold apples, potatoes, onions and garlic. The use of linen helps to wick away excess moisture.

For whom the project was created?
The project was created with a 1-2 person household in mind, and thus also for a small kitchen. The set is an attractive complement to a contemporary kitchen and do not interfere with its space.

What is the aim of the project?
The main assumption of the graduation project was the division of vegetables and fruit into various categories dictated by the conditions that favour their long-term storage. The design process was based on observations of users behaviour, as well as experiments with materials, vegetables and fruits. The design also aims to protect fruits and vegetables from external influences such as dust, mould spores and from contact and damage to the surface layer. Other assumptions include, according to the needs of the species, additional hydration or drainage of excess moisture.

What was your motivation to create the project?
My main motivation to create the project was a design problem resulting from the issue of food waste, one of the main causes of which is household waste. I specified the problem based on my own observations and storage problems, as well as on the basis of alarming statistics.

Elastic Prosthetic Cover
author: Otręba Oliwia | coauthor: | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) 550

What is the project about?
This is a project of a personalized cover for lower limb prosthesis. The project not only covers the prosthesis components, but also provides a shape simulating a healthy leg, which is especially desirable by users when wearing long trousers. The Cover is distinguished by the method of attachment, which makes the product one-piece and does not move during everyday use.

For whom the project was created?
The project was created for Kamil, a pacjent of a polish firm “PROTEO”,which specializes in making lower limb prostheses in 3D scanning and 3D printing technologies. PROTEO produced my design. Kamil is an active young man. It was important that his new prosthetic cover would be durable and flexible so he could train sports without fear that the cover would get damaged. Project was printed in innovative 3D printing technology: HP Multijet Fusion. Material - TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) gives advantages like: high tensile strength; flexibility; shock and impact damping; tear and crack resistance.

What is the aim of the project?
The aim of the project is to improve physical and mental feeling for a patient after amputation by creating the best design and the best quality of a product. My goal is also to create durable solution that will help to feel better in everyday life. My aim is also to provide more options to personalize prostheses - so that users can feel better in them.

What was your motivation to create the project?
My motivation is always connected with improving quality of life and helping people, especially those with special needs, disabilities etc. My encouragement was the fact that Kamil is active sportsman and personalization of a prosthesis for him was a challenge. He wanted modern, openwork cover while maintaining high resistance to damage. I was also motivated by designing for innovative technology and material. I am fascinated by the possibilities offered by 3D printing.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
My project is distinguished by a unique shape that I created on the basis of a 3D scan of a healthy limb. Thanks to this, it was possible to minimize the disproportions between the legs. Flexible material (TPU) makes the movement of the prosthesis more natural, because it is not a stiff element that looks artificial. The cover is one-piece, which is unique among other such designs on the market. Most of the covers are made of two parts (connected with magnets), which causes movement while walking - my design eliminates that problem. Assembly is easy. The cover is attached to the metal pipe connecting the knee and prosthetic foot. The mount is printed together with the cover. To attach project you need only 3 additional elements: 2 metal rollers with holes and 1 screw.

Shadow embodiment (pop-up book)
author: Rak Martyna | coauthor: | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) 800 EUR

What is the project about?
"Shadow embodiment" is a pop-up book inspired by the metaphoric shadow motif in the broad sense of culture. As a result of a illumination three-dimensional elements, the reader creates ever-changing shadow collages enabling to visualise the content of the book. The project is a book-shaped experiment, a form of experience, where light, shadow, human body, material objects, movement and screen-like surfaces are all variables of the creative process. This work contains the analysis of the shade motif existing in culture based on seven selected topics deriving from literature (myths and legends), philosophical and psychological concepts followed by their interpretation through the prism of history and the role they play in theatre. It is a scenography built live before reader’s very eyes.

For whom the project was created?
The project is a part of the Master's degree "Light and shadow as a medium for creating an image" realized at Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw. The project is directed to people with no age limit who are generally interested in art, theatre and stage design. Using the book takes time, requires curiosity, concentration, patience and openness to gradually discover and to explore in-depth of shadows' poetry. The work was preceded by a thorough analysis of the use of light and shadow in art focused on the evolution and symbolic meaning of these terms in European painting, and the use of light and shadow in theatre (light direction, traditional and contemporary forms of shadow theatre). The pop-up forms and paper mechanisms were preceded by many attempts and handmade models.

What is the aim of the project?
The main goal of the project is to distract people from the ubiquitous virtual reality on the screens and to inspire creation process. The content outline symbolic meanings of shadow in Western and Esastern culture, as well as to show the influence on the way of perception of reality and mapping it through art. The pop-up book can be treated as an experiment and fun. Various factors like using flashlights, screens or own body can be freely changed in order to obtain new results of shadow collages. The book is a shadow theatre mise-en-scene the readers can express themselves through play with the scale, proportions and colour selection, using the basic techniques of light projection. The pop-up book is ment to be an introduction to one’s own journey into the world of shadow and theatre.

What was your motivation to create the project?
My motivation in creating the project was, above all, curiosity and the will to develop imagination, as well as the need to explore the mutual influences between various fields of art and the search for various methods of shaping an image. The final idea of the book was formulated by my personal experiences, mainly architectural and design studies and work in the theatre. "Shadow embodiment" reflects the desire to recreate a fragment of the magical world - designing an experience, in which the user of the book has a real influence without imposing specific solutions. The connection of two broad socio-cultural concepts - shadow motif and theatre results from the exceptional plasticity of both phenomena, their changeability and the freedom to manipulate the image.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
The greatest value of the project is its multi-layered nature. The pop-up book used without additional lighting, presents graphically interpreted shadow motif and advanced paper engineering techniques. After illumination each of three-dimensional forms, user can discover a potential of creating new, abstract shadow scenes and expanding the field of own interpretation. The book is an attempt to visualise unclear and relative terms, as reality, aura, presence, soul or worth. The chosen method of creating shadow images allows to capture their unique ephemeral and volatile character. The book familiarizes with the phenomenon of shadow, paying attention to its universality and uniqueness.

Giełda i instrumenty finansowe. Poradnik projektanta graficznego
author: Stelmach Jakub | coauthor: | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro)

What is the project about?

For whom the project was created?

What is the aim of the project?

What was your motivation to create the project?

Try to describe additional values of your project?

estimated value of the project (Euro) 250

What is the project about?
Itthon. is the concept of a brand that is based on the handicraft traditions of the Vojvodina with the objective of providing new, creative opportunities for the local artisans. We address low-technology workshops that have accumulated huge experience and expertise. The collaboration resulted in a series of home accessories based on local resources and traditional techniques yet characterised by a contemporary feel. Each object in the collection is made using sustainable techniques and local raw materials, such as wood, potter’s clay and osier. The items have an individual character, bearing the mark of their makers’ hands, and exude high quality, a unified image and, not least, cosiness.

For whom the project was created?
Empowering the local craftsmen community!
Up until the 1990s Ada was the one of the most important artisan centre in former Yugoslavia but these days there is significant migration away from there despite the serious potentials represented by the local infrastructure and the local know-how. With itthon. we intend to broaden the possibilities of craftsmen living there, while relying on the traditions of small-scale industries.
We are currently working together with three makers, Sándor Uller woodturner, Forma Pottery Workshop and Mihály Kuzsner basket weaver.

What is the aim of the project?
Design for social good!
itthon. is dedicated to preserving artisan knowledge, drang attention to cultural roots and shaping local identity. A long lasting cooperation between the craftsmen would build a community amongst them that could change the general public mood too.

What was your motivation to create the project?
We are convinced that designers can play a catalytic role through community projects that create positive social impact. Throughout our project we aim to motivate the community to use their artisanal heritage. We want to highlight their opportunities to turn this know-how for their advantage, prospering in a more sustainable future.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
The project uniquely connects craft and artisan workshops and links them to the world of contemporary design. We see the potential in further evolution by involving more makers. In terms of environmental sustainablity each object is made from local base natural materials, like homegrown osier. The project aims to ensure fair working conditions that could also reduce the rate of migration that is so typical of the area today.

HANGUL. Project of an educational toy for learning Korean language.
author: Szymanowska Julia | coauthor: | year: 2020
estimated value of the project (Euro) 400

What is the project about?
The design problem that I've decided to solve is learning a foreign language such as Korean. To take up the topic proposed by me I was prompted by my own experience of learning the Korean language, mainly the alphabet.

For whom the project was created?
The target audience is children aged in an early childhood because it's the most common stage in education where a second language is introduced. The toy is a kind of puzzle made of natural materials. I designed 6 square boards (21x21 cm) and wooden blocks. The blocks are consonants and vowels that form syllables on the boards. Additionally, the boards form a cube, creating a stable structure. Thanks to this, the cube serves as a storage for the blocks. I also designed a booklet with instructions where it contained a transcription of the Korean alphabet, into the Latin alphabet. There are also individual boards and all possible combinations of syllables that can be arranged on them.

What is the aim of the project?
The aim of the project was to design a toy that supports children in learning a new language and culture. The project is to make the child get to know the alphabet and at the same time Korean culture. The toy is not only designed to independently teach children, but also gives them a possibility to play together with a parent, siblings or a guardian. Arrangement of blocks and puzzles and shape matching are the basic developing factors for the ability to think logically, and in this case it is connected with learning a new language.

What was your motivation to create the project?
South Korea is one of the fastest growing nations in the world so we can observe an increase in interest in the culture and the Korean language. More and more people are willing to learn this language. Learning any Asian language begins with the alphabet. Korean alphabet - Hangul consists of 24 characters: 14 consonants and 10 vowels. They form syllables in a square shaped block. I analyzed the availability of educational aids related to Korean language. Textbooks and study books are very difficult to find on the European market.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
This project is a result of reflection and using my own experiences while learning Hangul. It is not a simple language, but it is becoming more and more popular due to the phenomenon of hallyu wave, i.e. the influx of Korean culture. It is worth making a child interested in learning about other languages and cultures, because thanks to this, the world will be open to them in the future. Let's get rid of the language barriers that cause us so many problems and let's not be afraid to speak in a language other than our mother tongue. Also, the object is made out of wood for its durability and sustainability. I think it's very important for children to play with natural materials in the plastic-ruled world. My project is meant to broaden people's horizons.

Toras Workshop TW-OV – RadioRex & TW-SF – Stereosaurus
author: Torski Mateusz | coauthor: None | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) 32

What is the project about?
The project consists of two transforming 3D printed action figures. RadioRex is a white and blue mechanical tyrannosaurus, while Stereosaurus is yellow and red stegosaurus. The figures are little as they measure approximately 6cm in length. Their design features mechanical details and is inspired by mechas from 80s-90s. The articulation characteristic of action figures is present, however it is not as extensive due to their size. Both dinosaurs turn into cassette-like devices. In this form molded cassette details become visible. The transition between modes is depicted in the video. The set is stored in protective foam inside a dedicated packaging. Characteristic elements such as grid pattern and metallic text are a nod to vintage Transformers toys and are meant to evoke nostalgia.

For whom the project was created?
The project was created for action figure and toy collectors all around the world. One of the most important emotion for collectors is nostalgia. This figure features many traits similar to toys from 80s to appeal to collectors. However it stills stays up to modern standards of action figures by being sturdy, well articulated and presenting interesting design. Thanks to the nature of 3D printing those figures can be printed by anyone at their home printer. This let’s the collectors customize the figures to their own likings such as choosing various colors and materials.

What is the aim of the project?
My main goal was to leave something behind as a part of the collectors community. Since the most important thing for us are toys I made my own. Toys and action figures had one important purpose since the beginning – they were meant to be fun. I wanted to spread the joy that comes with toys. This was a challenge since toys are made by big companies and I was an independent designer. By designing these figures I also wanted to present my love for Transformers franchise and for various mecha series. Those figures are essentially my personal love letter to giant robots media.

What was your motivation to create the project?
Since childhood I loved Transformers, dinosaurs and giant robots. When I was a kid I once said that I wanted to make toys that are “Made in Poland”. Last year I managed to make my dream come true. You probably know a lot of programmers, businessmen, teachers etc. But toy designer is not a common profession. Toy designers are mainly located in USA and Japan – those are the hearts of toy industry. I’ve studied toy design on my own. I analyzed various action figures, compared different types of joints and techniques to bring the figure to life – to make it pose-able. By collecting more and more figures I was not only expanding my collection as I was expanding my knowledge on the topic. My training was successful since I managed to show the world this project.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
The figures feature movable components and different types of articulation joints. Even though they can be changed into different modes they retain movement in their articulation points. That is always a challenge for designers and there are many examples in which the transformation hinders articulation which is crucial for the action figure. One of the best examples is the jaw of Stereosaurus which can be lowered while retaining the transformation joint. The engineering to make the dinosaurs turn into cassette devices is extensive and the models are split into many components to make it possible. These figures were designed by independent designer at home. However they are on the same level as modern releases and are compatible with them.

W zgodzie
author: Włoszczuk Joanna | coauthor: | year: 2020
estimated value of the project (Euro) 500

What is the project about?

For whom the project was created?
Projekt kierowany jest do osób, które cenią sobie naturalne materiały. Chcące jak w najmniejszym stopniu wpływać negatywnie na środowisko.

What is the aim of the project?
Obiekt całkowicie zrealizowany z naturalnych materiałów przybliża odbiorcę do natury.

What was your motivation to create the project?

Try to describe additional values of your project?
Proces realizacji projektu polegał na tworzeniu prototypów, wyciąganiu wniosków i doskonaleniu formy. Dzięki temu mogę zaprezentować kilka obiektów, które prezentują poszukiwanie formy i optymalnego rozwiązania. Projekt "W zgodzie" to moja praca dyplomowa studiów magisterskich stworzona na Wydziale Architektury i Wzornictwa na Uniwersytecie Artystycznym w Poznaniu.

Show me where your nose, ear, vulva are
author: Wypiór Daria | coauthor: | year: 2020
estimated value of the project (Euro) 2 000

What is the project about?
"Show me where your nose, ear, vulva are” project is focused on genital nomenclature and offers educational material for children in elementary school. The project consists of 16 simplified models, packaging and an instruction manual that includes the correct genital names.

For whom the project was created?
This educational material is designed for sex education classes for early elementary school children (ages 6-9), but not only. It is dedicated to a wider audience, e.g. parents, guardians, because who if not a parent is bombarded with difficult questions by their kids. The product will help parents answer and illustrate many ambiguities related to sexuality. The didactic aid will also prove very useful in the doctor's surgery, where the patient will be able to visibly and effortlessly understand how his organism functions from the inside.

What is the aim of the project?
How do you name intimate body parts of your child? Should you call them by their first name or come up with an alternate expression? Parents are afraid of serious medical words, fearing that their children are too to understand and pronounce them. The question is, which word is actually more difficult: Tyrannosaurus or vulva? Is it the child or the parent who will have more trouble saying the correct name? The project "Show where your nose, ear, vulva are" focuses on the issue of genital naming. There are 16 separate models at our disposal which one put together to create a reproductive system. Manuals with proper names will aid in building each model. Thanks to this the child will learn correct vocabulary, but most of all, She/He will see what female and male organs look like.

What was your motivation to create the project?
"Gregory, show me where is your eye, where is your ear, and where is your nose"? It is a popular children's game, in which a child learns the main body parts. Why are the genitals neglected in these games? Doesn't this area have a name? If it doesn't have a name, maybe it doesn't exist or it is not important. The newborn child is focused on observation, understanding, and learning the world. For most of the parents, addressing children's queries about their bodies is not a problem. Embarrassment occurs when children start asking about the intimate areas. Ignoring these confuses the child and may become a taboo in the future.Although parents fear medical terms, knowing definitions not only gives the meaning to something that exists, but also highlights the essence of a body part.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
My purpos was to simplify sex organs to avoid vulgarity and keep the clear an consistent shape at the same time. Project has been inspired by the work of artists of the 20th century.

author: Zabel Wojciech | coauthor: | year: 2020
estimated value of the project (Euro) 1000

What is the project about?
Rough packaging for tough guys – This series of packaging for hair bands is kept in a raw and manly style perfect for the respective target group. The whole series consists of 6 unique images of a tough guy with different clothes and hairstyles, including one from the special edition of SAMURAI. The hair bands are stretched over the package and presented as part of the wardrobe of differently dressed characters, and can be easily put on or taken off. On the back of the package there is a simple instruction for tying the hair. The black and white graphic design adds simplicity – the filling was supplemented with black ink.

The design was created for tough men who have long hair or beards and are looking for a product in a package that understands them and does not feel uncomfortable buying it.

What is the aim of the project?
The aim of this project was to show a "product considered not masculine" in a very masculine and interesting way.

What was your motivation to create the project?
The motivation for creating this project was my situation at the beginning of the pandemic, when I happened to have long hair and did not know what to do with it. While checking the available options, I delved into the topic of hair bands for men and see a gap in the packaging market in this area, I wanted to do this project.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
The series of hair elastic packages can be perceived with the help of 3 senses. Sight - simple but very concise and interesting graphics of heartwood, touch - the packaging has been laser engraved so that the areas filled with ink have recesses and smell - each of the packages exudes a delicate smell of burnt wood. The package is 100% recycled. The project was carried out under the supervision of MoA Anita Szymankiewicz.

zręcznie - mending initiative that develops manual skills
author: Konik Olga | coauthor: No | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) 200

What is the project about?
Nowadays, the role of man begins to be reduced to being a consumer. We buy a lot and often, throw it away quickly ‒ things have little value. The consequences of such a lifestyle range from the environmental to the social and existential. Simultaneously, among young people, passive leisure methods dominate and manual work is becoming an elite hobby. The answer to the above problems is a mending initiative called zręcznie, its aim is to support the development of manual skills in the spirit of the slojd methodology ‒ the Scandinavian handwork learning program from the end of the 19th century. It is realized through educating and providing tools: tutorials, repair kits, craft patches and workshops. Channels for reaching the user and DIY visual elements for initiative were also developed.

For whom the project was created?
The project was created especially for young people who are the most vulnerable as victims of excessive consumption and lifestyle marketing. The individual elements of the project respond to the needs and difficulties of users collected during surveys, interviews and workshops. Their problems vary from lack of awareness, through lack of skills, to difficulty to focus and take action. The multi-channel formula allows to reach recipients of various skill levels and provide them with appropriate solutions: motivation, tools, tips, inspiration, group work.

What is the aim of the project?
In a wide sense the project responds to the problem of excessive consumption and situates itself versus textile overproduction. The idea behind the initiative is to create a committed attitude and move from awareness to action. Dexterity, the ability to do something with your own hands, has the potential to co-create identity, but also to build activity, independence and satisfaction. Mending is not only an approach to sustainable consumption and emphasizing the value of things. Self-repair and manual work bring back contact with the objects we have, teach creativity by inventive undertaking challenges. They have a counter-cultural element ‒ disagreement with being part of the so-called throwaway society, the society that quickly uses and throws away, treating things as disposable.

What was your motivation to create the project?
As a so-called young designer I wanted to make my MA project and thesis with criticism towards consumerism and capitalism. But I didn’t want to attack and criticize people, but provide them with some tools and hope. I wanted to create a value around things we already have, not to create new products, even digital. I’d rather create situations, meetings and stories. It was also connected to personal interest in mending as healing, meditating and getting back your focus in an overloaded world.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
At the time mending was a necessity, simple thriftiness, and a response to the lack of materials. Now it is about bringing the old sustainable attitude of respect to objects we possess. The project shows mending as a creative task and offers different levels of autonomy and commitment. It doesn’t offer ready-made solutions, it aims to be formative. It also brings a social value of meeting and working together. In this project I consider darning your sock as creative and rebellious behavior. Project wants to be as wasteless as possible, with digital tutorials in A4 format to print at home and through cooperation with textile company and printing house to gather unwanted materials (fabrics, foil) and use them as part of repair kits.

Unusual Expedition. A game adapted to the needs of partially sighted children.
author: Koterba Kinga | coauthor: | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) 55€

What is the project about?
A cooperative board game adapted to the needs of the visually impaired. The main goal of the project is to integrate disabled and non-disabled children through play. Another important elements of the project are the characters included in the game that refer to various types of disabilities. Their abilities focus on the opportunities resulting from the disability, not on the limitations. The plot of the game is ecological and concerns the rescue of the forest, which is to be cut down as a result of human activity. Among the animals, there were three heroes who decided to collect seeds to plant them and contribute to the creation of their home elsewhere.

For whom the project was created?
The recipients of the project are children aged 7 to 10, with particular emphasis on visually impaired children.

What is the aim of the project?
The aim of the project is to integrate children with disabilities and able-bodied through play. The game is cooperative, giving the possibility of mutual help and greater integration between children. During the game, children can notice the problems of their friend with disability and better understand their needs, thanks to which they learn empathy and sensitivity. An additional goal of the game is also to pay attention to ecological aspects.

What was your motivation to create the project?
The motivation for the project was the desire to create a tool supporting the integration of disabled and non-disabled children and supporting them in shaping an appropriate self-esteem. Thanks to the appropriate size of individual design elements and the selection of the appropriate colors, a visually impaired child can use the game without the need for additional aids, thanks to which they do not differ from their peers.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
I consulted the project on an ongoing basis with a typhlo-educator who helped me choose the best solutions and sizes of individual elements. All content in the game has been written in a typeface that increases readability for the visually impaired. I used contrasting colors, thanks to which people with color vision disorders should not have a problem with its reception. Users can also choose a light or dark variant of the board, depending on their preferences and eyesight defects. Two versions of the boards also give the opportunity to play the second variant of the game, which allows the players to compete. The game was tested by a visually impaired boy who had no problems with the visual reception of the work and showed an interest in entertainment.

Szlak Zabytków Nieoczywistych
author: Pilarczyk Katarzyna | coauthor: Julia Piwowarska, Małgorzata Fica (ASP Katowice) | year: 2021
estimated value of the project (Euro) ok. 2188 Euro

What is the project about?
Szlak Zabytków Nieoczobywistych is a project focusing on seemingly insignificant elements of Cieszyn's small architecture. It draws attention to unique examples of artistic craftsmanship, which can be observed in this area. It consists of a system of marking monuments in the field - a set of plates. They include the name of the route, the symbol of the material category (glass, metal, concrete) and the object number. The shape and finish of the carriers are inspired by the commonly known way of marking monuments. The second element of the project is a map showing the location of objects belonging to the route. Moreover, the project included promotional elements (badges, bags, stickers) and the website, which is a digital catalogue of objects.

For whom the project was created?
The idea of the project came from Mr. Bogdan Kosak, who has been documenting the unobvious monuments in Cieszyn for many years. Together with the city of Cieszyn authorities he wanted to create some kind of initiative/exhibition/installation indicating the presence of these elements in the city. The recipients of the project are visitors to Cieszyn, its inhabitants and students studying in the area.

What is the aim of the project?
The aim of creating the route is to show the history of unnoticed monuments of Cieszyn and their authors. Another aspect of the project is to recognize local artists and their contribution to the creation of these extraordinary works. Moreover, the project documents the monuments which are often neglected, in need of renovation or planned for removal. It is an opportunity to immortalise them and present them to future generations.

What was your motivation to create the project?
The motivation for this project was the desire to immortalise unusual monuments that are not usually noticed and to save them from oblivion.

Try to describe additional values of your project?
An additional value of the project is to sensitise people to artistic forms and to encourage them to reflect on noticing things that escape us every day. The project also provides for thanking the owners of the monuments. In this way, their commitment and contribution to the preservation of local culture and craftsmanship is recognised. In addition, the project was developed in the reality of a pandemic, so it is designed to operate as safely as possible. It is a field exhibition that can be visited independently. It is also worth noting that the identification of the project refers to the artistic expression of the Cieszyn monuments. It is at the same time minimalist and modern. It thus combines tradition with the present.
